Well, as of today, She has finished another school book. Her science book. She just finished learning about the seasons and what happens to the plants and animals during the seasonal cycles. She was pretty fascinated with that. Currently, were working on another Science Project. She has planted a bean, and we're seeing how long it takes to grow. So far, not much has happened. But hopefully soon, she'll see a sprout and then when it gets big enough, we can plant it outside.
Grace also worked on another Science Project about a week and a half ago. We were learning about plants, and how water effects the roots and soil and how it grows, etc. So in her book, one of the projects we did was to see how long it would take for some colored water to reach the top of a celery stick. The results were quite surprising.
The Celery Project:
Take a stalk of Celery and snip one inch off the bottom of the stalk. Take about a cup of water and 2 TBS of red food coloring and make red water. Stick the stalk inside the jar, leafy side up...and watch how long it takes for the red food coloring to reach the tops and ends of the stalk.
I placed these photos in my School Dayz photo folder on FB and several of my friends piped up and began taking guesses to see how long it would take, which I thought was really pretty cool. The guesses were anywhere from 1-4 days.
Do you know how long it took for the red food coloring to reach the top of the celery leaf???
Less than 24 hours!
We started school and this experiment at 10:00am and by 8:30pm, the water had reached the tops of the celery and it was red all over.
Grace was completely surprised and thought how cool it was that the celery drank so much red food coloring and such a short amount of time.
It was a really fun and easy project to do and she learned a lot by doing it. That is just one of the fun things we've been doing.
I'll be posting more things that we've accomplished or is accomplishing now. For now, here is that fun little sneak peak into just one of our home schooling classes :)
